Can’t find your insurance company?
Please review your policy documents. There should be a emergency claims process. Otherwise, call your broker and they will advise the next steps.
Quick tips
If you’re about to make a claim or looking for more information after you’ve already reported one, we’ve put together some tips to help you – whether it’s an accident, weather or flood damage, vandalism or a situation where someone has been hurt in your home. You can also call us, we’re here to answer all your questions.
Vehicle collision steps
-
Stop and move the vehicle to a safe location. Check for injuries. Call 911 is anyone is injured, the collision is serious, or you suspect impaired driving.
-
Take photos or videos of the vehicles, damage and accident scene. Record road and weather conditions, get names and contact information for witnesses if applicable.
-
If another vehicle is involved, get their names, drivers license numbers, insurance details, license plate and vehicle information.
-
Follow police instructions and attend a collision reporting center when required. In Ontario, collisions generally need to be reported when there are injuries of damage exceeding $5,000.
-
If during business hours, or for non-emergency situations, please contact your broker so we can go over your options and review your coverage. We are here to support you in this process. For emergencies, call the insurance company directly.
-
If possible, speak to your broker or insurer before authorizing towing or rental vehicles. Keep all receipts for out of pocket expenses, and don’t authorize any major repairs until the insurer has assessed the vehicle.
Property loss steps
-
If there is a fire, major water loss, gas leak or immediate danger, leave the property and call 911.
-
Stop the source of damage if it is safe to do so. Contact the appropriate emergency service, fire department, plumber, electrician, restoration company, etc. Take reasonable steps to prevent further damage.
-
If you need to clean up or make immediate repairs to prevent further damage, take photos or videos. Keep receipts for out of pocket expenses. Avoid making major and permanent repairs.
-
Contact your broker or the insurance company directly with the numbers listed on this page. We will go over your available coverage options and next steps required.
-
Before signing any contracts for major repairs, speak with your adjuster or broker first. Get estimates, understand what is being authorized, and confirm who is responsible for payment.
-
Throughout this claims process, your first point of contact is going to be the claims adjuster assigned from the insurance company. They will handle everything. As your broker, we are available any time for support though.
